The AMB8355 Long Range Radio Modems provide an easy-to-use, long range, multi-channel serial data communications link for a range of up to 20 km at line of sight or up to 3 km indoors. The modem transmits and receives half duplex serial data at rates of 1.2 kbps to 19.2 kbps (over-the-air data rate) by means of a FM Radio Transceiver operating in the 868 MHz frequency band.

RF Software
A 8K buffer memory is provided to enable the RF modem to transmit and receive data independently of the host controller without the need for handshaking. The CTS/RTS signal may be used for flow control in duplex applications.

The radio modem parameters can be configured via serial interface by making use of AT commands or AMBER ACC software. Data can be formed into packets and passed from one modem to another. If a received data packet contains any error, then the data packet will automatically retransmitted. Both, size of data packets and number of retries are configurable.

Interfaces
The product comprises a RS232 interface. The host controller communicates with the AMB8355 radio modem using data rates between 1.2 kbps and 115.2 kbps. A converter for RS485 (AMB1191-485) is also available (accessories).
